Data Deletion Instructions

How to delete your ChessCrumbs account and all associated data

Delete Your Account

If you want to delete your ChessCrumbs account and all associated data, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your ChessCrumbs account at chesscrumbs.com/login
  2. Go to Settings by clicking on your profile or navigating to the Settings page
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page
  4. Click "Delete Account" button
  5. Confirm your decision when prompted

What Data Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Your user profile (username, email, password hash)
  • OAuth connections (Google, Facebook login links)
  • All uploaded chess games
  • All drill positions and spaced repetition data
  • Your practice statistics and progress
  • Subscription and payment history references
  • Any saved preferences and settings

Warning: This action cannot be undone. Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.

Facebook Login Users

If you signed up using Facebook Login, deleting your ChessCrumbs account will:

  • Remove all your data from ChessCrumbs servers
  • Disconnect the link between your Facebook account and ChessCrumbs
  • Remove your Facebook user ID from our database

You can also remove ChessCrumbs from your Facebook connected apps:

  1. Go to Facebook Settings
  2. Click "Apps and Websites"
  3. Find ChessCrumbs and click "Remove"

Can't Access Your Account?

If you cannot sign in to delete your account, contact us directly and we will process your deletion request manually:

Please include the email address associated with your account. We will verify your identity and process the deletion within 30 days.

Data Retention

After account deletion:

  • All personal data is deleted immediately from our active systems
  • Backup systems may retain data for up to 30 days before automatic purging
  • Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained (cannot be linked back to you)
  • We may retain records required by law (e.g., payment transaction records for tax purposes)
